Growing up, my Nonnie would always make these "tootsie rolls". Cinnamon sugar sprinkle over leftover pies crust rolled up and baked. They were a delicious treat to snack on while waiting for the pie to bake and cool.
When I saw this version that included preserves, I knew it was worth making a pie crust just for this recipe and not using only scraps. You can you what ever preserves you would like. I found an apricot, peach and mango three fruit preserves, and it is absolutely delicious and made these rolls absolutely delicious.
Fruit Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls
Ingredients:
- 1 unbaked pie crust
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 1/3-1/2 cup preserves
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 350º F. Lightly spray a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Roll out the pie dough into a circle, about 1/8 inch in thickness.
- Brush the dough with melted butter.
- If the preserves are too thick heat in the microwave for 10-15 seconds to soften. Gently spread the preserves onto the dough leaving about a 1/2 inch around the edge without preserves.
- In a small bowl stir together the sugar and cinnamon, sprinkle over top of the preserves.
- Roll up the dough, like a jelly roll, and seal the edge well.
- Place the roll on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 30-40 minutes or until lightly browned.
- Allow to cool completely and then cut into slices.
Enjoy!!!
