Baked Rigatoni

Baked Rigatoni: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

We eat a lot of pasta in our house and I have really come to love baked pasta. I recently remade my Baked Spaghetti and Meatballs and it made me want to find more baked pasta recipes. My kids questioned why the pasta had to baked in the oven when everything was already cooked. I don't know how to explain it, but something good happens when pasta is cooked in the oven, it makes it even better.

Baked Rigatoni

Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces rigatoni pasta
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 pound Italian sausage
  • 1 tablespoon Italian seasoning
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 2-24 ounce jars marinara sauce
  • 16 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1/2 cup shredded parmesan cheese

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º F. Spray a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  2. In a large pot, cook the pasta according to the package directions.
  3. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add in the onions and garlic and sauté until tender.
  4. Add in the ground turkey and sausage, cooking and crumbling until completely cooked.
  5. Add in the Italian seasoning, black pepper and marinara sauce. Reduce the heat to a simmer and let simmer until the pasta is cooked and drained.
  6. Once the pasta is done drain well and return to the pot. Add the meat sauce to the pasta and mix well.
  7. Spread half of the pasta into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Sprinkle half of both cheese over the pasta. Add the remaining pasta and top with the remaining cheese.
  8. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes.
  9. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until hot and bubbly and cheese is melted.
Enjoy!!!
