Zebra Caramel Popcorn

Zebra Caramel Popcorn: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Caramel popcorn is delicious, caramel popcorn drizzled with white chocolate and milk chocolate is over the top delicious.

I had never heard of Zebra Popcorn before I found this recipe, but now I keep on seeing it in the stores.

The hardest part of this popcorn is waiting for it to cook and then cool. In fact, I could not wait for it too cool and we started eating it before the chocolate hardened. It was messy to eat, but we definitely enjoyed it. Although we enjoyed it much more after it cooled because we were not getting chocolate all over our hands.

With a little bit of planning and patience you can be enjoying this amazingly delicious popcorn.

Zebra Caramel Popcorn

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup unpopped kernels
  • 1 1/4 cups brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cut into 1 tablespoon pieces
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 2 teaspoons shortening

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 200º F. Line an extra large baking sheet with parchment paper or line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Use an air popper to pop the popcorn kernels into a very large bowl.
  3. While the popcorn is popping, in a large microwave safe bowl, add in the brown sugar, condensed milk, corn syrup and butter.
  4. Microwave for 2 minutes and then stir very well. Repeat this step two more times.
  5. Slowly sprinkle the baking soda over the mixture, the mixture will bubble up some and then stir well.
  6. Pour this mixture over the popped popcorn and gently mix until the popcorn is evenly coated in the caramel.
  7. Pour the popcorn onto the prepared baking sheet or sheets and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  9. Remove from the oven and allow to cool.
  10. While the popcorn cools, place the white chocolate and 1 teaspoon shortening into a small bowl and place the milk chocolate and 1 teaspoon shortening into another small bowl.
  11. Microwave each chocolate for 30 seconds, stirring well. Continue with this step until the chocolate is melted and smooth.
  12. Using a spoon, drizzle both chocolates over the popcorn in a stripped pattern.
  13. Allow the chocolate to harden and then break the popcorn into pieces. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Will keep for up to 1 week.
Enjoy!!!
