Potstickers are one of my go to food items at a Chinese restaurant. However I am fairly particular about my potstickers. I prefer them fried, not steamed or boiled and I do not like any unusual ingredients in them.
When I originally went to make these potstickers I was going to use ground chicken like the original recipe called for, but when I got to the grocery store the ground chicken was significantly more expensive than ground turkey, so I used ground turkey. You could use either one and these potstickers will still be delicious.
My husband could not stop raving about these potstickers, he loved them so much. Which kind of surprised me, since he does not typically eat potstickers at a Chinese restaurant. But I have to agree with him on how delicious these are. Just note that if you have any leftovers they will not be crispy the next night.
Turkey Potstickers
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/2 cup shredded cabbage
- 1 carrot, peeled and shredded
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon reduced sodium soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
- 2 teaspoons sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 36 won ton wrappers
- small bowl water
- 2 tablespoons canola oil
Directions:
- In a large bowl, combine the chicken, cabbage, carrots, garlic, green onions, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, sesame oil and black pepper.
- Working with 1 won ton wrapper, at a time place 1/2 tablespoon of the filling into the middle of the wrapper.
- Dip a finger into the bowl of water and rub all of the edges of the won ton wrapper with water.
- Fold the won ton wrapper over the filling and pinch the edges to seal.
- Heat the canola oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the potstickers to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy. Repeat with the remaining potstickers.
Notes:
I used a 1/2 tablespoon of filling in each potsticker. Depending on what shape and size your won ton wrappers are you might need to use more or less filling.
The filling does not need to be cooked before filling the wrappers. It will cook in the wrapper when you cook the potstickers in the skillet.
