Hot Kentucky Brown Sliders: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This recipe takes the classic Kentucky hot brown and turns it into a sandwich. It is a messy sandwich, but a delicious messy sandwich. Even my husband who does not like getting his hands messy when he eats enjoyed this sandwich.

Hot Kentucky Brown Sliders

Ingredients:

White Cheddar Gravy

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons all purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoons paprika
  • 1 ounce shredded white cheddar cheese

Sliders

  • 12 slider buns
  • 16 ounces sliced turkey
  • 3 tomatoes, sliced
  • 12 slices bacon, cooked
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 cup shredded white cheddar cheese

Directions:

    White Cheddar Gravy

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º F.
  2. In a small pot, over medium heat, melt the butter.
  3. Whisk in the flour and cook until smooth and bubbly, while whisking constantly.
  4. Slowly pour in the milk while whisking. Whisk constantly until mixture is smooth.
  5. Whisk in the black pepper, nutmeg, paprika.
  6. Bring the mixture to a low boil, while stirring constantly until the mixture thickens.
  7. Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the cheese. Set aside.
  8. Sliders

  9. Place the bottom of the buns into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  10. Place the butter into a small bowl and microwave in 5 second increments until completely melted. Stir in the nutmeg and paprika.
  11. Brush the bottom half of the buns with half of the butter mixture.
  12. Place turkey on top of the buns, followed by the tomato slices.
  13. Evenly top the tomato slices with the cheese gravy.
  14. Break each bacon slice in half and criss cross over the gravy.
  15. Evenly sprinkle the cheddar cheese over the bacon and place the top half of buns on.
  16. Brush the top of the buns with the remaining melted butter mixture.
  17. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the tops of the buns are golden brown.
