Cheesy Lasagna

Cheesy Lasagna: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Lasagna is such a classic pasta dish. I called this cheesy lasagna because it is loaded with different kinds of cheese. The best part was the layer of provolone cheese. The gooey delicious cheese layer in the lasagna made it better than the average lasagna.

Cheesy Lasagna: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Cheesy Lasagna

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 pound ground sweet or hot Italian sausage
  • 2-15 ounce cans no salt added tomato sauce
  • 2-6 ounce cans no salt added tomato paste
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley flakes
  • 3 cup small curd cottage cheese
  • 8 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 9 lasagna noodles, cooked and drained
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, over medium heat, cook the ground turkey and sausage until crumbled and completely cooked.
  2. Add in the tomato sauce, tomato paste, minced garlic, sugar, Italian seasoning and black pepper. Stir to combine.
  3. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to a simmer and cooked uncovered for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375º F.
  5. Add the eggs to a large bowl and lightly beat.
  6. Add in the parsley, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese and parmesan cheese.
  7. Place an 9x13 baking dish on a sheet pan. After preparing the lasagna the baking dish will be very full and this will catch anything that bubbles over.
  8. Spread 1 cup of the meat sauce in the bottom of an ungreased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  9. On top of the sauce layer with 3 lasagna noodles, all of the provolone cheese slices, 2 cups cottage cheese mixture, 1 cup mozzarella cheese, 3 noodles, 2 cups meat sauce, remaining cottage cheese mixture and 1 cup mozzarella cheese.
  10. Place the remaining noodles on top followed by the remaining meat sauce and mozzarella cheese.
  11. Cover the baking dish and bake for 50 minutes.
  12. Uncover the baking dish and bake for 20 minutes or until heated through.
  13. Let stand for 15 minutes before cutting.
Enjoy!!!
