Maple Sugar Cookies

Maple Sugar Cookies: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This cookie was way better than I imagined it would be. I love a good sugar cookie, but when maple extract is added to it, oh my goodness. I really had trouble limiting myself to one cookie a day.

Maple Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:
    Maple Sugar Cookie
  • 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup canola oil
  • 1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon maple extract
  • Icing
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 teaspoons maple extract
Directions:
    Maple Sugar Cookie
  1. Preheat oven to 350º F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or a silpat.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and baking soda.
  3. In a large bowl beat together the butter, canola oil and sugar until well combined. Beat in the egg, vanilla and maple extract.
  4. Add in the flour mixture 1 cup at time, mixing until completely combined.
  5. Scoop out 2 tablespoons of dough and roll into a ball. Place on the prepared baking sheet, leaving space in between for spreading.
  6. Lightly flatten the dough balls with the bottom of a cup.
  7. Bake for 8-10 minutes or just until the edges are set and the bottoms are lightly brown.
  8. Remove the cookies from the oven and allow to cool on the baking sheets for 15 minutes. Transfer to a cooling rack and cool completely.
    Icing
  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, water, vanilla and maple extract until smooth. If the mixture is too thick add in small amounts of water until desired consistency is reached.
  2. Use a spoon and smooth the icing onto the tops of each cookie. Allow to set for 15 minutes.
Enjoy!!!
