My husband was not happy when I told him the type of pizza I was making. He is not as adventurous with pizza as I am. He prefers a more "traditional" pizza. If he had his choice the most adventurous he would get would be a Hawaiian pizza.
When he realized that there was not even pizza sauce on the pizza he questioned how it could be a pizza without pizza sauce. But after his first bite he was surprised how good it tasted. He was wowed by the taste and went back for more and I had to agree, it was really, really, good.
Buffalo Chicken Pizza
Ingredients:
- 16 ounces pizza dough
- 8 ounces cooked and shredded chicken breast
- 1/2 cup buffalo sauce
- 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
- red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Preheat oven to 500º F.
- In a small bowl stir together the shredded chicken and 1-2 tablespoons of the buffalo sauce and set aside.
- Roll the pizza dough out into a 12 inch circle and sprinkle with the garlic powder.
- Transfer the pizza dough to either a pizza peel, with a small amount of cornmeal spread on it or a pizza pan.
- Evenly coat the pizza dough with the remaining buffalo sauce, stopping about 1/2 inch away from the edge.
- Sprinkle the cheese on top of the buffalo sauce, followed by the shredded buffalo chicken.
- Add desired amount of sliced onions.
- If using a pizza peel, transfer the pizza to a preheated pizza stone or place the pizza pan in the oven.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the crust is lightly browned. Watch the pizza carefully since ovens cook at different rates and you don't want it to burn.
