After I tried my Dark Chocolate Ice Cream, I immediately added to my list of recipes to try, dark chocolate ice cream with marshmallow swirl. I'm not sure why but it sounded like a really good combination.
I used my homemade marshmallow sauce for this ice cream. You could use a store bought marshmallow sauce as well. I would not recommend marshmallow fluff, because it is thicker than the sauce and would not swirl in as well.
Dark Chocolate Ice Cream with Marshmallow Swirl
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup dark cocoa powder, sifted
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 cup half and half
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 3 cups marshmallow sauce
Directions:
- Place a freezer safe container for storing the ice cream in the freezer.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder and both sugars. Add in the half and half and whisk until both sugars have dissolved. Stir in the heavy cream and vanilla extract.
- Pour the mixture into an ice cream machine and churn according to the manufacturer's directions. Remove the storage container out of the freezer and transfer half of the ice cream into it. Top with 1 1/2 cups marshmallow sauce and using a knife, swirl the ice cream and marshmallow sauce together. Transfer the remaining ice cream into the container and add the remaining 1 1/2 cups of marshmallow sauce. Again using a knife, swirl the ice cream and marshmallow sauce together. Cover the container and freeze.
