Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza

A few months back I saw a commercial for a bacon cheeseburger pizza and thought, I bet I could make a version of that at home. So I ran the idea by my husband and bounced some ideas off of him. Then on our next pizza night I made my version of a bacon cheeseburger pizza and it was hit. I loved the flavor the dill pickle relish added to the pizza, but then again I love dill pickles.

Bacon Cheeseburger Pizza

Ingredients:
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • cornmeal
  • 1/2 pound ground turkey
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup pepper jack cheese
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • red onion, thinly sliced
  • dill pickle relish, drained
Directions:
  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water. Let sit for about 5 minutes or until the mixture foams.
  2. In a large bowl combine the flour and salt.
  3. When the yeast is ready, turn on the mixer, with the dough hook attached, and slowly add in the flour. Knead until the dough forms a smooth ball, about 5-10 minutes.
  4. Coat dough with olive oil, return to bowl, cover and let rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours or until the dough doubles in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, cover it and let sit in the refrigerator overnight.
  6. Preheat oven with pizza stone in it to 500º F.
  7. Remove the dough from the refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 2 hours to warm up.
  8. In a skillet cook ground turkey and season with black pepper. Drain if needed.
  9. On a lightly floured surface roll the dough ball into thin crust, about 10 inches. Place the pizza dough on a pizza peel that is sprinkled with cornmeal.
  10. Spread the pizza sauce onto the dough and top with cooked ground turkey.
  11. Sprinkle the pizza with both cheeses and bacon. Add desired amount of onion slices and pickle relish.
  12. Transfer pizza to the preheat pizza stone and bake for 5-10 minutes or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Enjoy!!!
