Growing up I was never a fan of whole wheat anything. However as I have grown older I have realized whole wheat stuff made right can be good. This pizza crust is a great example of that. It has whole wheat in it but also some all purpose flour so it is not too heavy and dense. A perfect crust accented with a touch of sweet honey. Top with this dough with your desired topping for a delicious pizza.
Honey Whole Wheat Pizza Dough
Ingredients:
- 1 3/4 cups warm water
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 1/2 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 2 Tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
Directions:
- In a glass measuring cup add warm water, honey and yeast. Let mixture sit for 5 minutes or until the mixture is puffy.
- Add in the oil and gently whisk to combine.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer, fitted with the dough attachment, combine the water and yeast mixture, salt and both flours. Turn mixer on low.
- Once the dough begins to form a ball, keep mixer on low and knead for 2-3 minutes or until the dough has formed a ball that is smooth and elastic.
- Remove dough and place in an oiled bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and allow to rise for 2 hours.
- Preheat oven to 450º F.
- Punch the dough down and divide into 2 pieces. Roll the dough out to your desired thickness on a lightly floured surface.
- Top pizza with your desired toppings and baked for 10-14 minutes.
Notes:
Cooking time will vary depending on how thin or thick you roll out the dough. So watch the pizza carefully so the crust does not burn.
