Dark Cherry Ice Cream

Cherry Ice Cream: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

When it comes to frozen cherries I prefer the tart cherries over the dark sweet cherries. However, I always have a hard time finding frozen tart cherries. So when making this ice cream I had to settle for the dark sweet variety.

Cherry Ice Cream: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Even though I could not use the cherries I really wanted in this ice cream, it still turned out pretty delicious. But when I do find the tart cherries I will definitely be making this ice cream again.

Dark Cherry Ice Cream
1- 16 ounce bag frozen dark cherries, thawed
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups half and half
1 1/2 cups whipping cream
2 teaspoons almond extract

Place a freezer safe container for storing the ice cream in the freezer.

Place the thawed cherries and any juice from the bag in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium for about 5 minutes or until the cherries have softened. Remove from heat and add in sugar, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Stir in the half and half, whipping cream and almond extract. Place mixture in a bowl and refrigerate until completely cold.

Pour into ice cream machine and churn according to manufacturer's directions. Take storage container out of the freezer and transfer ice cream into it. Cover and freeze.
