Cinnamon Roll French Toast

Cinnamon Roll French Toast: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

I enjoy a good cinnamon roll, but do not enjoy the work of them and therefore do not make them often. This french toast takes the flavor and deliciousness of a cinnamon roll without all of the work.

Cinnamon Roll French Toast

Ingredients:

French Toast

  • 1 loaf French bread
  • 5 eggs
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon, divided
  • 2 teaspoons ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar

Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º F. Spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Slice the French bread into 1/2 inch slices and place a single layer into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla, 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon and nutmeg, until well combined.
  4. Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread slices.
  5. Place another layer of bread slices on top of the first layer of bread slices. Pour the remaining egg mixture over top of the top layer of bread slices.
  6. Sprinkle the brown sugar and remaining cinnamon over top of the bread slices.
  7. Bake for 25 minutes or until the egg mixture has been completely absorbed by the bread slices and an inserted knife into a bread slice comes out clean.
  8. Meanwhile, in a large bowl using an electric mixer, beat the butter and cream cheese until well combined and creamy.
  9. Add in the vanilla and beat until combined.
  10. With the mixer on low, gradually add in the powdered sugar until well combined.
  11. Remove the baking dish comes from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes.
  12. Spoon desired amount of cream cheese frosting over top of the bread slices.
Enjoy!!!

Notes:
You can prepared the casserole the night before, cover with aluminum foil and refrigerate overnight. In the morning remove the casserole from the refrigerator and remove the aluminum foil and allow to sit on the counter while the oven preheats. Bake for about 30 minutes.
