One of my go to sandwiches at any sandwich or sub shop is an Italian. I am also a sucker for a good grilled cheese sandwich. So when I saw a recipe that basically combines the two, there was no doubt I had to make it.
Salami layered with two types of cheese and a bit of pizza sauce sandwiched between two slices of sourdough bread topped with butter and Italian seasonings. That makes for one delicious sandwich.
Italian Grilled Cheese
Ingredients:
- 4 slices sourdough bread
- 1/2 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasonings
- 2 slices mozzarella cheese
- 10 slices salami
- 3 tablespoons pizza sauce
- 2 slices provolone cheese
Directions:
- Butter the tops of all 4 slices of bread and sprinkle with Italian seasoning.
- Turn over 2 pieces of bread and top with mozzarella cheese, followed by the salami, pizza sauce and provolone cheese. Top with the remaining bread, butter side up.
- Preheat a large skillet over medium-low heat. Add in the sandwiches and cook until toasted, about 6 minutes. Flip the sandwiches over and cook on the other side until toasted and cheese is melted, about 6 minutes.
Enjoy!!!
