Monte Cristo Sliders

The Monte Cristo sandwich is now in an easy oven baked slider. Instead of the traditional deep fried or fried in a skillet this sandwich is baked in the oven. They still have egg batter, it's just brushed on topped instead of dipped into, which is a bit healthier for you. The Hawaiian rolls add a bit of delicious sweetness.

Traditionally the Monte Cristo is served with jam for dipping the sandwich in. I was never a big fan of dipping my sandwich in it, but still enjoy the sandwich. My family never got on board with dipping the sandwich in jam either. So, every time a make a version of that sandwich, I do not included the jam.

Monte Cristo Sliders

Ingredients:

  • 1-12 count package Hawaiian rolls
  • 12 slices ham
  • 12 slices turkey
  • 6 slices baby Swiss cheese
  • 2 tablespoons dijon mustard
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and slightly cooled
  • powdered sugar
  • strawberry or raspberry jam, warmed

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º F. Spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Leaving the roll attached to each other, slice them in half horizontally. Place the bottom half of the buns into the prepared baking dish.
  3. Spread the bottom half and top half of buns with dijon mustard.
  4. Place half of the Swiss cheese on the bottom half of the buns, followed by the ham, then the turkey and then the remaining cheese. Put the top half of the rolls on.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk the egg. Slowly pour in the melted butter while whisking. Brush the mixture on the top of the rolls, using all of it.
  6. Place a toothpick into the middle of the rolls in the 4 corners. Cover the baking dish loosely with aluminum foil, keeping it off of the rolls (the toothpicks hell with that).
  7. Bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and the toothpicks and cook for another 10 minutes or until the tops are golden brown.
  8. Allow the sliders to cool slightly. Cut them apart with a serrated knife and dust with powdered sugar. Serve with jam if desired.
Enjoy!!!

Notes:
The nutritional info does not included the powdered sugar or jam.
