When you can't find an ingredient you need for a recipe you find a way to substitute. With this soup I could not find fresh basil, so I used dried and added it in when I added the black pepper. I used 1 tablespoon of dried, since when converting fresh to dried you typically use 1/3 less. Since the recipe calls for 3 rounded tablespoons fresh I figured 1 tablespoon dried would work. However, it seemed a bit much so I would try 1/2 a tablespoon dried next time, maybe a slightly heaping 1/2 a tablespoon.
