I recently discovered Nashville hot chicken sandwiches and boneless wings. To say it was love at first bite is an understatement! The amount of heat it has is perfect, it is spicy, but most importantly it also has flavor.
This burger is the same, it has plenty of heat, but also lots of flavor. You could use ground chicken to be more "authentic" to Nashville hot chicken, but since I almost always have ground turkey on hand that is what I used.
I was so glad my youngest daughter did not want one (she does not like spicy food), because that meant there was an extra burger for dinner on leftover night. However, it did not last that long cause I ended up eating it for lunch the next day.
Nashville Hot Turkey Burgers
Ingredients:
Burgers
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons hot sauce
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoons dark brown sugar
Toppings
- 4 hamburger buns
- dill pickle slices
Directions:
- In a large bowl, gently mix together the ground turkey and all of the spices. Divide the meat into 4 pieces and gently shape into 4 patties.
- In a large skillet, over medium heat, heat the oil. Add in the patties and cook for 2-3 minutes until browned. Flip the patties over and cook on the other side for 2-3 minutes until browned.
- Meanwhile, in a small bowl, stir together the sauce ingredients.
- After the patties have browned on both sides, pour the sauce into the skillet around the patties. As the sauce starts to thicken, flip the patties coating both sides in the sauce. Cook until the patties are completely cooked.
- Meanwhile, lightly toast the buns.
- Place the patties on the bottom half of the buns and top with desired amount of pickles and place top half of bun on top.
