I love a good waffle, especially a Belgian one. Typically I make waffles with flavors or toppings, but hardly ever a plain simple waffle. I figured it was about time to have a basic, simple, plain Belgian waffle. Sometimes it is nice to have a basic waffle with maple syrup or maple cream. This waffle is everything a traditional Belgian waffle should be, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Although it is made an easy way. Instead of whipping the eggs whites separate from the yolks and then folding them in at the end, the eggs are mixed into the batter with the wet ingredients.
Belgian Waffles
Ingredients:
- 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 1/2 cups cold milk
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled slightly
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 eggs
Directions:
- Preheat a Belgian waffle maker.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and add in the milk, melted butter, vanilla and eggs. Whisk just until the ingredients are completely mixed. If the batter is too thick add in a splash of milk. You want the batter thick, just not too thick.
- Pour the batter into the waffle maker and cook according to the manufacturer's. My waffle maker takes 3/4-1 cup of batter.
Enjoy!!!
