Spicy Jalapeño Sloppy Joes

Spicy Jalapeño Sloppy Joes: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

These sloppy Joes are definitely sloppy! My oldest and I got into quite the conversation about these. She like them but said they were too messy. Well,  that is the point, they are suppose to be mess, but she didn't agree. Oh well, not worth the argument, but definitely worth making and eating. They are so delicious and so flavorful.

Spicy Jalapeño Sloppy Joes

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup diced yellow onion
  • 1 large jalapeño, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 pounds ground turkey
  • 1 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • dash Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoons cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 8 pretzel rolls
  • 8 slices muenster cheese
  • 2 jalapeños, sliced
  • Crispy Spicy Pickled Seasoned Cucumbers

Directions:

  1. In a large skillet, heat the oil over medium heat. Add in the onions and jalapeños and cook until softened, about 5-8 minutes. Add in the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the garlic turns fragrant.
  2. Add in the ground turkey and cook, breaking it up into small pieces, until it is completely cooked.
  3. Add in the ketchup, water, vinegar, mustard, Worcestershire sauce sugar, cayenne, paprika and black pepper, stir to mix well.
  4. Cover the skillet and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Preheat the broiler on your oven.
  6. Place the buns on a rimmed baking sheets and place under the broiler. Watch the buns carefully because they will toast quickly. Remove the baking sheet when the buns are toasted to your liking. Remove the top half of the buns, leaving only the bottoms on the baking sheet.
  7. When the sloppy joe mix is done, place a few spoonfuls onto the bottom half of the buns. Top each one with a slice of muenster cheese. Place the baking sheet back under the broiler until the cheese has melted, about 30-45 seconds.
  8. Place a few more spoonfuls of sloppy joe mixture on top of the cheese, then add some jalapeño slices and crispy spicy pickled seasoned cucumbers followed by the top half of the bun.
Enjoy!!!

Notes:
You can substitute crispy fried onions for the Crispy Spicy Pickled Seasoned Cucumbers.
