This recipe comes to you with great reviews from my husband. He loves a good mushroom and Swiss burger, so I made this casserole for him. Even though I do not like mushroom, I can sometimes handle them in a casserole. However, once this casserole was ready to eat, I could not bring myself to try a bite knowing that the mushrooms were a huge flavor and I would definitely taste them. My husband said the taste was very similar to a mushroom and Swiss burger and he loved this casserole.
Mushroom and Swiss Burger Casserole
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 6 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 15 ounce can cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- black pepper, to taste
- 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
- 32 ounces frozen tater tots
Directions:
- Preheat the oven 350º F. Lightly spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
- In a large skillet, over medium-high heat, melt the butter and heat the olive oil.
- Add in the mushrooms and diced onions. Cook for 5 minutes.
- Add in the garlic and Italian seasoning. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until the garlic is fragrant, stirring often.
- Add in the ground turkey and cook until completely cooked and crumbled.
- Add in the cream of mushroom soup, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce and season with black pepper. Stir and let simmer for a couple of minutes.
- Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and add in the tater tots. Stir everything together.
- Top the casserole with the shredded Swiss cheese and cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and place the baking dish under the broiler for a few minutes until the top gets lightly browned and casserole is bubbly.
