Mushroom and Swiss Burger Casserole

Mushroom and Swiss Burger Casserole: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This recipe comes to you with great reviews from my husband. He loves a good mushroom and Swiss burger, so I made this casserole for him. Even though I do not like mushroom, I can sometimes handle them in a casserole. However, once this casserole was ready to eat, I could not bring myself to try a bite knowing that the mushrooms were a huge flavor and I would definitely taste them. My husband said the taste was very similar to a mushroom and Swiss burger and he loved this casserole.

Mushroom and Swiss Burger Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 15 ounce can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups shredded Swiss cheese
  • 32 ounces frozen tater tots

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven 350º F. Lightly spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large skillet, over medium-high heat, melt the butter and heat the olive oil.
  3. Add in the mushrooms and diced onions. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Add in the garlic and Italian seasoning. Cook for 1-2 minutes or until the garlic is fragrant, stirring often.
  5. Add in the ground turkey and cook until completely cooked and crumbled.
  6. Add in the cream of mushroom soup, heavy cream, Worcestershire sauce and season with black pepper. Stir and let simmer for a couple of minutes.
  7. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and add in the tater tots. Stir everything together.
  8. Top the casserole with the shredded Swiss cheese and cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
  9. Bake for 30 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and place the baking dish under the broiler for a few minutes until the top gets lightly browned and casserole is bubbly.
Enjoy!!!
