Oh wow, this is by far my favorite applesauce I have made. It had a nice tart flavor to it with a subtle sweetness. I just could not get enough of this applesauce.
When making applesauce I always leave my peels on and puree the applesauce so I still get the nutritional value from the peel. Leaving the peels on will make this applesauce more tart than if you were to peel the apples. If you are not a fan of tart flavors you will want to peel the apples first.
Vanilla Honey Crisp Applesauce
Ingredients:
- 5 pounds honeycrisp apples, chopped
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Directions:
- Add the chopped apples to a crock pot.
- Pour the lemon juice and vanilla extract over top and toss to combine.
- Cook on high for 4 hours or until the apples are soft and can be easily mashed with a spoon.
- For a smooth applesauce puree in batch in a blender or use an immersion blender to puree in the crock pot.
Enjoy!!!
Notes:
If you do not like tart applesauce, peel the apples first.
The smaller you chopped the apples, the faster they cook down.
I did not need to add any water to this applesauce, but you will want to check on the applesauce several times during the cooking time to make sure the apples are not cooking too fast or it could burn.
