This basic cheese sauce is very versatile. It could be a sauce for vegetables or used for a baked potato. It could also work as a basic cheese dip for chips.
Basic Cheddar Cheese Sauce
Ingredients:
- 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- 4 cups milk, hot
- 16 ounces extra sharp cheddar cheese
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Whisk in the flour a little at a time until well blended. Continue to whisk for 1-2 minutes.
- Slowly whisk in the milk and continue to whisk until thickened.
- Whisk in the cheese a little bit at a time whisking until the cheese is completely melted and blended.
