Basic Cheddar Cheese Sauce

Basic Cheddar Cheese Sauce: Savory Sweet Satisfying

I used to use Velveeta all the time. I loved the stuff and any recipe it was used in. But once I started cutting processed foods out of my diet Velveeta was one of the first foods to go. Since then I have passed on a lot of recipes because they called for Velveeta. But recently I decided to try and substitute Velveeta with a basic cheese sauce in a recipe and it worked. Check back in a few days to see that recipe.

This basic cheese sauce is very versatile. It could be a sauce for vegetables or used for a baked potato. It could also work as a basic cheese dip for chips.

Basic Cheddar Cheese Sauce

Ingredients:
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup all purpose flour
  • 4 cups milk, hot
  • 16 ounces extra sharp cheddar cheese
Directions:
  1. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  2. Whisk in the flour a little at a time until well blended. Continue to whisk for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Slowly whisk in the milk and continue to whisk until thickened.
  4. Whisk in the cheese a little bit at a time whisking until the cheese is completely melted and blended.
Enjoy!!!
