Crock Pot Chex Mix

Crock Pot Chex Mix: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

When I first saw the idea for making Chex mix in a crock pot I dismissed it. Making it in the oven takes 1 hour versus the crock pot which takes 3 hours. It takes 3 times as long, why would I want to wait the extra time for delicious homemade Chex mix?!

Then after coming across the recipe again, my mind started to think differently. Yes the oven cook time was shorter, but you have to stir every 15 minutes, so 4 times. In the crock pot only 3 times. So not a big difference, but stirring Chex mix in a crock pot versus on a baking sheet is much easier. I always seem to spill some Chex mix when trying to stir it on a hot baking sheet. Plus having the oven on for an hour, is not something I like to do in the warmer months as it heats up the kitchen. The crock pot being on for 3 hours does not heat up the kitchen.

Either way you cook Chex mix, oven or crock pot, it tastes the same. Which is absolutely delicious!

Crock Pot Chex Mix

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups rice Chex cereal
  • 3 cups corn Chex cereal
  • 3 cups wheat Chex cereal
  • 2 cups pretzels
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
  • 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Directions:

  1. Add all the Chex cereal and pretzels to the crock pot.
  2. In a microwave safe bowl, melt the butter.
  3. Whisk in the seasoned salt and Worcestershire sauce.
  4. Drizzle over the cereal mixture in the crock pot and stir until everything is evenly coated, about 1 minute.
  5. Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 3 hours, stirring after 1 hour, 2 hours and 2 1/2 hours, to prevent the mix from burning.
  6. Spread the mixture onto a large baking sheet and let cool to room temperature.
  7. Store any leftovers in an airtight container.
Enjoy!!!

Notes:
The website I got the directions from mentions that if your crock pot does not have a tiny hole in the lid to let air escape it could collect too much condensation and make the Chex mix soggy. To prevent this it is suggested to place a clean kitchen towel under the lid of the crock pot to collect any condensation that may form.
