Firecracker Chicken

Firecracker Chicken: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This chicken has quite a spicy kick to it, but also has a bit of sweetness as well. If you do not like things too spicy, you can reduce the amount of hot sauce and/or red pepper flakes. Plus you can also increase the amount of brown sugar if you want to add more sweetness to it. Anyway you make this dish it will taste delicious and allow you have a Chinese inspired dish right at home.

Firecracker Chicken

Ingredients:

Chicken

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup canola oil
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite sized pieces
  • black pepper, to taste

Sauce

  • 1/3 cup hot sauce
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325º F. Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Place the cornstarch in a shallow bowl and place the eggs in different shallow bowl.
  3. In a large skillet heat the oil.
  4. Season the chicken pieces with black pepper. Dip the chicken pieces in the cornstarch and then in the beaten eggs. Place the chicken pieces into the hot oil and cooked just until browned on both sides.
  5. Place the browned chicken into the prepared baking dish.
  6. In a medium bowl combine the hot sauce, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, water and red pepper flakes. Pour this sauce over the chicken and bake for 1 hour stirring every 15-20 minutes.
