This burger was simply delicious. However, it is a messy burger. But the deliciousness out ways the messiness no question about it. You may want to consider the messiness factor if you have younger children. My girls really liked the burger, but the messiness caused some issue for them.
If you have a few extra minutes you might want to consider making your own teriyaki sauce. I used this recipe and it was the most delicious and flavorful teriyaki sauce I have ever had. It was better than any store bought brand hands down.
Hawaiian Turkey Burgers
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup green bell pepper, finely diced
- 1/2 cup green onions, thinly sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 8 ounce can pineapple rings, drained, juice reserved
- 4 slices Swiss cheese
- thick teriyaki sauce
- light mayonnaise
- 4 hamburger buns
Directions:
- In a large mixing bowl combine turkey, bread crumbs, peppers, onions and 1/4 cup reserved pineapple juice.
- Divide turkey mixture equally into 4 pieces and form into patties.
- Cook the patties using your favorite method.
- While cooking the patties, baste with teriyaki sauce.
- During the last few minutes of cooking the patties cook the pineapple as well.
- As soon as burgers are done place on bottom half of bun and top with a slice of Swiss cheese, then top with pineapple.
- Spread mayonnaise and teriyaki sauce on top half of bun and place on burger.
