Crock Pot Sweet and Spicy Sausage

Crock Pot Sweet and Spicy Sausage: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

I had come across this recipe over and over again on various social medias. But every time I saw it I had no desire to make it. The combination of grape jelly and chili sauce just did not sound good to me. Out of all of the jellies, grape is probably one of my least favorite.

However, when cleaning out the pantry I had a jar of chili sauce and I knew I had smoked sausage in the freezer so all I needed was the grape jelly. Plus it was a super easy recipe perfect for the chaotic, crazy, busy and no time to cook days I have been having.

Crock Pot Sweet and Spicy Sausage: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

After one bite, I was floored! This sausage was so amazingly delicious, a little sweet and a little spicy. It was so good that my husband kept on trying to steal the sausage off of our girls plates. He also requested I make these sausage again really, really soon and let him have the whole pot. I'd have to say these were a big hit and I wish I had made them sooner.

Crock Pot Sweet and Spicy Sausage

Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon olive oil
  • 1/2 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 12 ounces chili sauce
  • 12 ounces grape jelly
  • 1/2 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 32 ounces smoked sausage

Directions:

  1. Cut the sausage into 1/2 inch thick slices.
  2. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. When the oil is hot add the garlic and sauté for 30 seconds. Then add in the chili sauce and the grape jelly. Stir everything together and cook for 10 minutes, stirring frequently. Remove from the heat and add in the spices, stirring to mix.
  3. Place the sausage into the crock pot and then pour the sauce over top. Cover and cook on high heat for 1 1/2-2 hours, or until the sausage is hot and the sauce is bubbly. Give the mixture a quick stir after it has been cooking for 1 hour.
Enjoy!!!
