French Toast Soufflé

French Toast Soufflé: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This french toast puffs up little bit, like a soufflé. Hence the name French Toast Soufflé. It is also creamy, because of the cream cheese and half and half and has a nice maple flavor. To make this french toast even better, you prepare it the night before and just have to bake it the next morning.

French Toast Soufflé

Ingredients:

  • 1 loaf french bread
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 8 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2/3 cups half and half
  • 1 1/4 cups maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Directions:

  1. Grease a 9x13 baking dish.
  2. Cut the loaf of bread into 1 inch cubes and place into the prepared baking dish.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the milk, half and half, 1/2 cup maple syrup and vanilla extract. Pour this mixture evenly over the bread. Cover the pan and refrigerate overnight.
  4. Remove the pan from the refrigerator and let sit at room temperature for 30 minutes. Meanwhile preheat the oven to 350º F.
  5. Bake the french toast uncovered for 50 minutes, or until an inserted knife in the center comes out clean.
  6. Pour the remaining 3/4 cup maple syrup over the french toast soufflé and then sprinkle the powdered sugar over top.
Enjoy!!!
