Black Forest Hot Chocolate

Black Forest Hot Chocolate: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

I have been on a serious hot chocolate kick this winter. I have been enjoying trying so many different flavors of homemade hot chocolate. My girls have gotten used to having a new hot chocolate almost every weekend, they now ask what flavor hot chocolate are we having this weekend.

For this hot chocolate I used dark chocolate chips, but if dark chocolate is not your preferred chocolate you could use semisweet chocolate chips. When I added the cherry juice I wanted to make sure I could taste it, especially since I used dark chocolate. Depending on your taste or chocolate you use you could reduce the cherry juice to 1/3 cup.

Black Forest Hot Chocolate

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups milk
  • 5 ounces dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup maraschino cherry juice
  • whipped cream
  • chocolate syrup
  • maraschino cherries

Directions:

  1. In a medium saucepan heat the milk over medium high heat and bring to a simmer.
  2. As soon as the milk come to a simmer remove it from the heat and add in the chocolate chips, vanilla, maraschino cherry juice.
  3. Stir until the chocolate has completely melted. Let the mixture sit for 5 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend.
  4. Reheat the mixture over low heat until it comes to a simmer.
  5. Remove from the heat and pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, chocolate syrup drizzle and a maraschino cherry if desired.
Enjoy!!!
