Overnight Eggnog French Toast with Eggnog Syrup

Overnight Eggnog French Toast with Eggnog Syrup: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Sometimes when trying a new recipe the main flavor of the recipe does not come through like I think it will or should. This recipe happens to be the complete opposite. The eggnog flavor came through so well and it was delicious.

Even without the eggnog syrup you can taste the eggnog flavor of this french toast. However, the eggnog syrup is delicious and only adds to the wonderful eggnog flavor.

Streusel Topping
1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

Eggnog Syrup
1/2 cup unsalted butter
1 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup eggnog

Directions:
Spray a 9x14 inch baking dish with cooking spray.

Cut the French bread into 1 inch pieces and place them in the prepared baking dish.

In the bowl of a food processor add the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg. Pulse until blended. Add in the cold cubed butter. Pulse until the mixture is crumbly and the size of peas. Transfer the mixture to a container with a lid, cover and refrigerate overnight.

In the morning, preheat the oven to 350ยบ F. Uncover the the baking dish and sprinkle the streusel mixture evenly over the top of the french toast. Bake for 55-60 minutes or until an inserted knife in the center comes out clean.

Towards the end of the bake time prepare the eggnog syrup.

In a medium pan, over medium-low heat, melt the butter. Add in the sugar and stir until well combined. Add in the eggnog and turn the heat up to medium-high. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Remove from the heat and serve warm over the french toast.

Enjoy!!!
