Cheesy Broccoli Bake

Cheesy Broccoli: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

My youngest daughter request cheesy broccoli for dinner one night. It turns out that I have not made a simple broccoli and cheese recipe. So after looking at several recipe, I choose one and tweaked it a little bit.

The results were delicious! The daughter that requested it approved and said I could make it again. Which is a pretty big compliment considering she would be very happy with the microwaveable cheesy broccoli.

Cheesy Broccoli Bake

Ingredients

  • 7 cups broccoli florets, about 3 broccoli crown
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 2/3 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2-4 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Cooking Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350º F. Spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray and set aside.
  2. In a large pot, add 1 inch of water and bring it to a boil. Carefully add in a steamer basket and then all of the broccoli florets. Cover the pot, reduce the heat to a simmer and cook for 3-5 minutes or until the broccoli is bright green and crisp.
  3. Meanwhile, in a large pot, one big enough to hold all of the broccoli, combine the cornstarch and black pepper. Slowly whisk in the milk. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, whisking constantly.
  4. Once it reaches a boil, cook and whisk for 1 minute, or until the mixture has thickened. Add in the cheddar cheese and stir until completely melted.
  5. When the broccoli has finished cooking drain it and add it to the cheese sauce when the sauce is ready. Stir well to coat the broccoli in cheese sauce.
  6. Transfer the cheesy broccoli to the prepared baking dish and sprinkle with desired amount of parmesan cheese on top.
  7. Cover and bake for 20-30 minutes or until broccoli is cooked to your liking.
Enjoy!!!
