Oh, my, goodness!!! The Spiciness, Alfredo sauce, smoked sausage and pasta creates one super delicious dish. Every once in a while I make a dish that tastes so amazing I can not wait to have it as leftovers and this dish was one of those. I did not mind having this meal more than one day in a row.
Spicy Smoked Sausage Alfredo Bake
Ingredients:
- 16 ounces cavatappi pasta
- 3 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
- 1 cup low sodium chicken broth
- 2 cups half and half
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
- 2 cups mozzarella cheese, divided
- 14 ounces smoked sausage, cut into 1/4 inch slices
- Cook the pasta according to the package directions and drain.
- While the pasta is cooking, melt the butter, over medium heat, in a large skillet.
- Add the garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes or until the garlic is fragrant.
- Stir in the flour and cook, stirring constantly, for 1 minute.
- Slowly pour in the chicken broth, whisking constantly.
- Stir in the half and half, black pepper, cayenne and red pepper flakes.
- Stir constantly and simmer until the sauce has thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Add in the parmesan cheese and 1 cup mozzarella cheese, stirring until they are melted and sauce is smooth.
- Add in the sausage and cooked pasta, stirring to combine.
- Preheat broiler and lightly spray a 9x13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Transfer pasta mixture into the prepared dish and top with remaining mozzarella cheese.
- Broil for 2-3 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
