Simple syrups are easy to make and so much cheaper than buying those coffee syrups. Plus the ingredients are simple and you know exactly what is in them. They will typically last for about 2 weeks in the refrigerator and I have even frozen them before.
This strawberry syrup can be added to coffee, either hot or cold. You could add it it hot chocolate I've even added it to milk, cause strawberry milk is so much better than plain milk.
Strawberry Simple Syrup
Ingredients:
- 1 pound strawberries, hulled and quartered
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
Directions:
- In a medium saucepan, add in the strawberries and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, reduce the heat to a simmer and simmer for 20 minutes.
- Place a mesh sieve over a medium bowl and strain the strawberry water. Do not press down on the strawberries, it will make your syrup cloudy.
- Return the strawberry water to the saucepan and stir in the sugar. Heat over medium-low heat, stirring constantly. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, remove from the heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
Enjoy!!!
Notes:
Frozen strawberries also work well.
Makes about 1 1/2 cups of simple syrup.
