It is no secret that I love key lime pie and because of that love I have tried various key lime recipes. However, key lime hot chocolate was not a recipe that I instantly wanted to make. I was hesitant as to how key lime and hot chocolate would taste. The fact that it white chocolate makes it sound better and key lime and white chocolate do go together. So I figured why not give it a try.
Surprisingly key lime hot chocolate is pretty good. It is sweet with a subtle key lime flavor. Definitely a nice change of taste from all of the other hot chocolates I have been making.
Key Lime Hot Chocolate
Ingredients:
- 3 key limes, zested (about 1 tablespoons)
- 1 ounce sweetened condensed milk (about 2 tablespoons)
- 14 ounces whole milk
- 3 ounces white chocolate chips
- whipped cream
Directions:
- In a small saucepan, stir together the zest, sweetened condensed milk and 4 ounces milk. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring often, for 10 minutes. Do not allow the mixture to come to simmer, lower the heat as needed.
- Pour the mixture through a fine mesh sieve. Discard the zest and pour the milk mixture back into the saucepan.
- Add in the remaining milk and the white chocolate chips. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring often, until the chocolate is melted and fully incorporated into the milk.
- Pour the hot chocolate into 2 mugs and top with whipped cream.
Enjoy!!!
Notes:
If you can't find key limes, you can use lime zest.
