Cinnamon French Toast Sticks

Cinnamon French Toast Sticks: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

I decided to do a taste test with these french toasts sticks. I wanted to make them two different ways and see which was better. Half of the batch I made with a cinnamon batter and the other half I made with a regular batter and coated in cinnamon sugar after cooking.

Cinnamon French Toast Sticks: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Of course as almost always with my taste tests, both versions were liked. The kids of course like the ones coated in cinnamon sugar better, but who wouldn't like french toast coated in sugar. But for those that are watching their sugar intake there is a delicious version without all of the added sugar.,

Cinnamon French Toast Sticks

Ingredients:

  • 8 slices Texas toast, thick cut toast
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • unsalted butter

Cinnamon Sugar

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon

For Serving

  • maple syrup

Directions:

  1. Cut each slice of toast into four sticks and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, cinnamon, sugar and vanilla. If coating the french toast sticks in cinnamon sugar, leave out the cinnamon and sugar from the egg mixture.
  3. Dip each piece of bread into the egg mixture turning to coat all sides. Make sure it is well saturated with the egg mixture. Gently shake off any excess egg mixture and place on large plate.
  4. In a large skillet, melt 2-3 tablespoons of butter over medium heat.
  5. Once the butter has melted, add in several french toast sticks. Do not over crowd the pan and place them in a single layer.
  6. Cook until golden brown and then flip and cook on the other side until golden brown. Repeat with remaining french toast sticks, adding more butter as needed.
  7. If coating in cinnamon sugar, immediately place into a bowl where the cinnamon and sugar are mix together and coat all sides with the cinnamon sugar.
  8. Server immediately with maple syrup.
Enjoy!!!
