Sausage Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich

Sausage Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Breakfast sandwiches are delicious and so easy to customize, but they have always had one major issue, the eggs. Cooking or frying an egg the "normal" way leads to an egg that is bigger than the english muffin. But now there is an easy way to solve this without buying and egg ring. In fact there are two ways to accomplish this, one I feel is better than the other. All you need is a muffin tin or metal mason jar ring.

For this sandwich I tried out both ways to make an egg the "perfect" shape. The muffin tin way is super easy and gives you that circle shape, however I did not like how tall the eggs were, plus the egg was smaller than the english muffin. Adding them to the sandwich just make the sandwich taller and harder to eat.

The mason jar ring gave me that perfect circle shape without being too tall and it was just about the same size as the english muffin. When using the mason jar ring there are a few things to keep in mind. You not only need to spray the nonstick skillet, but you also need to spray the ring well with nonstick cooking spray. After coating both with cooking spray place the ring into the preheated skillet. If you place the ring bottom side down in the skillet and crack the egg into it, a little bit of egg may leak under the ring. A way around that is to hold the ring down, while cracking the egg into it. That means you would need to be able to crack an egg with one hand or have someone to help you. Then once the egg sets you can remove the ring and continue to cook the egg your preferred way. If you flip the ring the other way and place the top side down into the skillet and then crack the egg, it will not leak out of the sides, but if you want to flip the egg to cook the other side and make over easy/medium eggs, you will have to use tongs to grab the ring and flip over. Then you will have to gently push down the edges of the egg as it tends to stick a bit even though it was sprayed, before removing the ring.

Both ways works to make a circle egg for this sandwich, I just preferred the look and taste of the skillet egg made with the metal mason jar ring.

As for customizing the sandwich, you can use any kind of cheese you would like. Prefer bacon over sausage, use a few slices of bacon instead. Don't want any meat on it? Just use egg and cheese.

Sausage Egg and Cheese Breakfast Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound roll breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 4 english muffins
  • 4 slices cheddar cheese

Directions:

  1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Cut the roll sausage into 4 equal patties. Press the patties out until they are slightly bigger than the english muffin, the sausage will shrink a bit as it cooks.
  3. Place the patties into the preheated skillet and cook for 3-4 minutes or until browned. Flip the patty over and cook for 3-4 minutes on the other side until browned and completely cooked. Keep the sausage warm until needed.
  4. While the sausage cooks, in a large nonstick skillet, over medium heat, add the butter and allow it to melt. Spray 4 metal mason jar rings well with cooking spray and place into the skillet (see above for more info on using mason jar tings to cook eggs). Crack an egg into each ring and cook the egg to your liking.
  5. Meanwhile toast the english muffins. As soon as the english muffin come out of the toaster place a piece on cheese on the bottom half. If you want the cheese melted more place under the broiler.
  6. Once the sausage is done place onto the cheese followed by the egg, when they are done. Place the top half of the english muffin on top of the egg.
Enjoy!!!
