As much as I like making waffles with various flavors mixed in or on top, it is nice to have a basic waffle with just maple syrup on top. I sometimes get caught up in making various flavors that I forget about the basics. Everyone should have a basic waffle recipe and this recipe is for your basic buttermilk waffle. A waffle that is crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
Buttermilk Waffles
Ingredients:
- 1 3/4 cups all purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled to room temperature
- 2 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Directions:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and baking soda.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, butter, eggs and vanilla extract.
- Add the wet ingredients to the dry and whisk gently just until combined, do not overmix.
- Spray your waffle iron with cooking spray and then preheat. Once the waffle maker is preheated add in the amount of batter according to the manufacturer's instructions and cook until golden brown or according to the waffle makers indicator.
Enjoy!!!
Notes:
I used a Belgian waffle maker, 1 cup of batter and cooked the waffles for 4 minutes.
