During the holidays oven space is tight and that seems especially true whenever I make ham. That is why I have started cooking the ham in my crock pot. It saves oven space, is super easy and tastes delicious.
The first time I made ham in the crock pot I use the packet included with the ham. This time I threw away the packet and used a homemade glaze. The homemade is quicker than the packet that comes with the ham, no cooking required. Plus it tastes great and I know exactly what is in it.
Crock Pot Maple Brown Sugar Ham
Ingredients:
- 7-8 pound spiral sliced ham
- 2/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon dry ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon ground clove
- 1/2 cup real maple syrup
- 1 1/2 cups pineapple juice
Directions:
- Remove all of the ham packing and throw away the glaze packet.
- In a medium bowl whisk together the sugar, mustard, cloves and maple syrup.
- Pour 1/4 of the glaze into the bottom of the crock pot.
- Place the ham cut side down in the crock pot.
- Pour the remaining glaze over the ham and rub it into the ham.
- Slowly pour the pineapple juice over top of the ham.
- Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 6 hours.
- Baste the ham with the cooking liquids every couple of hours.
- Remove the ham, tent with foil and let rest for 15-20 minutes before slicing.
