The addition of Italian sausage to chili is such a tasty change. My whole family loved it. Plus it is super easy to make. You brown the sausage and then dump everything in a crock pot and let it cook. It does not get much easier than that.
Firehouse Sausage Chili
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds Italian sausage
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 15.5 ounce can dark red kidney beans
- 15.5 ounce can light red kidney beans
- 16 ounces frozen corn
- 2- 10 ounce cans diced tomatoes with green chilies
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1/8 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 cups low sodium beef broth
Optional Toppings
- shredded cheddar cheese
- sour cream
- pickles jalapeño slices
Directions:
- In a large skillet, over medium heat, brown the sausage.
- Drain and fat and transfer the sausage to a crock pot.
- Add all of the remaining ingredients to the crock pot and stir to mix.
- Cover and cook on low heat for about 6 hours.
- Serve with optional toppings if desired.
Notes:
I used 1 pound hot Italian sausage and 1 pound sweet Italian sausage.
