Sometimes a burger sounds good, but I do not the heaviness of a burger. Especially when we are dealing with extreme heat. Why does it always seem to get really hot when school starts!?
This best parts of a burger are incorporated into a salad. So now I can have the taste and flavor of a burger without the heaviness of a burger. A perfect salad for a hot day.
Cheeseburger Salad
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground turkey
- 1/4 cup yellow onion, finely chopped
- 2 1/2 tablespoons steak sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- black pepper, to taste
- 4 cups chopped romaine lettuce
- 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cubed
- 1 pint grape tomatoes, halved
- thinly sliced red onion, to taste
- 8 ounces baby dill pickles, sliced
- 6 slices turkey bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1 cup croutons
- thousand Island dressing
Directions:
- In a skillet cook the ground turkey and the onions until the meat is completely cooked and onions are soft.
- Add in the steak sauce, garlic powder, and pepper.
- Stir and cook for 1-2 minutes.
- Remove from heat and refrigerate until completely chilled.
- In a large salad bowl add in the chopped lettuce.
- Place the ground turkey mixture in a line down the center of the lettuce and top with desired amount of sliced red onion.
- Place the remaining ingredients in lines along the ground beef mixture.
- Place the croutons around the edges of the salad bowl.
- Serve with thousand island dressing.
Notes:
If you do not like thousand island dressing, you could substitute it for ranch dressing.
