Sugar Cookies

Sugar Cookies: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

These sugar cookies came from the Santa Sugar Cookies my girls and I made for Christmas. The sugar cookie was so good that I decided to make it into a separate post so I could easily find the recipe to use with cookie cutters whenever the mood strikes.

The cookies did not spread out in the oven, they maintained their shape which is important for sugar cookies. They were soft and the dough was easy to work with.

Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 16 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 4 cups all purpose flour

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl beat together the butter, eggs and sugar until well blended.
  2. Add in the baking powder, vanilla extract, baking soda and sour cream and mix well.
  3. Add in the flour and stir just until combined. The dough will be slightly sticky, but if it is too sticky mix in a little bit more flour.
  4. Transfer the dough to a piece of plastic wrap and tightly wrap.
  5. Refrigerate overnight.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350º F. Line several cookie sheet with silpats or parchment paper.
  7. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface until about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Using a cookie cutter, cut out as many shapes as you can and place on the prepared baking sheets.
  9. Gather the dough scraps up and re-roll the dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut out more shapes and place on prepared baking sheets. Continue until all of the dough has been used.
  10. Bake for 9 minutes, or until the bottoms are lightly browned.
  11. Allow to cool for a few minutes on the baking sheets and then transfer to a cooling rack and allow to cool completely.
Enjoy!!!
