Churro Waffles

Churro Waffles: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

I've only had churros a few times, and they are super delicious. The best one I ever had was one that had a filling in the middle, now that was a good churro. If you've never had a churro or do not know what they are, they are a pastry dough that is deep fried and then coated in cinnamon sugar. This creates a treat that is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.

This concept works with a waffle so well. Waffles are already crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, so all that's left is to coat it in cinnamon sugar. This waffle is a great way to enjoy the flavor of a churro.

Churro Waffles

Ingredients:

    Waffles

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 3 shakes ground cinnamon
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups warm milk
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

    Topping

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Directions:

  1. Preheat your waffle iron.
  2. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, baking soda, sugar and cinnamon.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, warm milk, butter and vanilla. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry and stir until everything is well combined.
  4. Spray your waffle iron with non stick cooking spray. Pour the batter into your waffle iron, per the instructions and then cook until the waffles are golden and crisp.
  5. While the waffles are cooking melted the butter in a shallow bowl and combine the cinnamon and sugar in another shallow bowl.
  6. As soon as the waffles are done dip them quickly in the melted butter, then coat both sides with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Serve with maple syrup if desired.
