Homemade Hamburger Buns

Homemade Hamburger Buns: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

I really like making things from scratch, doing it the homemade way. So when I came across a recipe for making homemade hamburger buns I had to give it a try.

These are so much better than the store bought. They are firmer and held their shape better. They are also easy to make.

Homemade Hamburger Buns

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3 tablespoons warm milk
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs, beaten and divided
  • 3 1/3 cups bread flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. In a small bowl combine warm water, warm milk, yeast and sugar. Let sit for about 5 minutes or until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl combine the flour and salt.
  3. Add in the butter and rub it into the flour with your fingers until it forms crumbs.
  4. Mix in yeast and one egg. Knead until smooth and elastic, dough will be slightly sticky.
  5. Allow dough to rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Divide into 8 equal pieces and form into a smooth balls. Place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper or a silpat. Cover loosely with plastic wrap sprayed with cooking spray and allow to rise for 1 hour.
  7. Preheat oven to 400º F.
  8. Brush the tops of the buns with the remaining beaten egg.
  9. Bake for about 15 minutes or until golden brown.
