Bacon Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole

Tater tot casserole falls into the comfort food category for me. Something about tater tots being in a casserole makes it a comfort food to me. When ever my husband make his special breakfast he includes tater tots, but just eating them plain does not qualify them as a comfort food. This casserole takes flavors of a cheeseburger and combines it with tater tots to create a delicious comforting casserole.

While eating this casserole my kids asked, what about the mustard and pickles? Hmm, maybe some ground mustard and pickle relish. This gives me a great excuse to make this again and play around with adding some other cheeseburger ingredients. But for now enjoy this version.

Bacon Cheeseburger Tater Tot Casserole

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey
  • 3 ounces real bacon bits
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 32 ounces frozen tater tots
  • 1 can condensed cheddar cheese soup
  • 16 ounces sour cream

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350º F. Lightly spray a 9x13 baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Cook the ground turkey in a large skillet until completely cooked and crumbled.
  3. In a large bowl (or in the skillet if it is large enough), combine the ground turkey, bacon bits, cheddar cheese, frozen tater tots, cheddar cheese soup and sour cream, until well mixed.
  4. Transfer the mixture to the prepared baking dish and bake for 45-50 minutes or until the tater tots are crispy and mixture is bubbly.
Enjoy!!!

  1. Your recipe does not mention when to add the cheddar cheese soup. Do I add it to the ground turkey mixture before cooking, or is it poured on later?

    1. Sorry about that! I fixed the recipe to include when to add the cheddar cheese soup. You add it with all the other ingredients in the large bowl and then mix everything together. I hope you enjoy this dish!
