When I decided to make a Homemade Spaghetti Sauce I got lucky with the first recipe I tried. Not only was it a keeper but it was made in the crock pot which made the recipe even better. So when I needed to find a homemade marinara sauce I decided to start with a crock pot recipe, but unfortunately it was not a keeper. It took several different recipes, including a stove top one, before I found one that was a keeper. Thankfully it is made in the crock pot and makes a big batch, which makes my life easier.
Crock Pot Marinara Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1/2 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 garlic cloves, diced
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 28 ounce can whole tomatoes
- 28 ounce can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon dried Italian seasoning
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon dried parsley
Directions:
- In a skillet, heat olive oil, over medium high heat.
- Add in diced garlic and diced onions, cooking until tender.
- Transfer the onion and garlic mixture to crock pot.
- Add in all the remaining ingredients to the crock pot, stirring to mix.
- Cover and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours.
Notes:
If you like your marinara sauce smooth, use an immersion blender or transfer in batches to a regular blender and puree until smooth.
