Okay so when I made this sloppy joe seasoning mix I happen to use up two of the spices it required and of course I recycled them like I normally wold forgetting I would need them for the picture. So just forget about two spices missing and focus on a low sodium seasoning mix.
A homemade sloppy joe seasoning mix without all the added sodium and extra stuff you do not want. The packaged mix contains 2,240 mg of sodium versus my homemade mix which contains 35 mg of sodium. Totally worth opening a few spice containers, versus opening one package.
Homemade Sloppy Joe Seasoning Mix
Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons dried onions
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dried marjoram
- 1 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
Directions:
- Combine all of the spices and use in place of 1 package sloppy joe seasoning mix in any recipe.
To Make Sloppy Joes
Ingredients:
- 1 pound ground meat of your choice
- 1 sloppy joe seasoning mix
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
Directions:
- Cook ground meat in a skillet until completely cooked, drain.
- Add seasoning mix, ketchup, water and Worcestershire sauce.
- Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes stirring occasionally.
Notes:
You can substitute onion powder in place of dried onions.
