Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes

Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

Sometimes I come across a recipe or an idea that makes things so much easier in the kitchen it makes me wish I had come across it much soon. This happens to be one of those.

Now normally cooking potatoes in order to make mashed potatoes is not that difficult or hard. You just need to make sure the pot does not boil over and have to check the potatoes a few times until fork tender, not super difficult.

However cooking them in the crock pot is so much easier. I am telling you this is life changing. All you have to do is throw all the ingredients into the crock pot and let the crock pot do all the work.

To make this recipe even better, these were the best mashed potatoes I have ever had. They were so creamy and delicious.

Crock Pot Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients:

  • 5 pounds russet potatoes
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • black pepper, to taste
  • 3 cups milk OR half and half OR heavy cream OR combination of them
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. Peel the potatoes and cut them into about 1 inch pieces. Transfer the potatoes to a crock pot.
  2. Smash the garlic cloves, peel and place on top of the potatoes.
  3. Season potatoes with desired amount of black pepper.
  4. Pour the dairy of your choice into the crock pot.
  5. Slice butter into 1 tablespoon pieces and add to the crock pot. Stir once to combine all ingredients.
  6. Cook on high for 4-5 hours or until the potatoes are very soft and tender.
  7. Turn heat to warm and mash the potatoes, adding more dairy to reach your desired consistency.
Enjoy!!!

Notes:
You can use any dairy you like or prefer. I used a combination of dairy products that needed finishing up, evaporated milk, half and half, heavy cream. Then I added skim milk to equal the 3 cups.

Dairy products like heavy cream and half and half will create a richer mashed potatoes where skim milk will not.

The smaller you cut the potatoes the faster they will cook.

If you do not like a lot of garlic in your mashed potatoes, you can remove the smashed garlic cloves before mashing the potatoes.
