This recipe takes a flaky buttermilk biscuit and combines it with plenty of yummy sausage and cheese. It is a very tasty way to start any day!
Sausage Cheddar Biscuits
Ingredients:
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed
- 1 pound bulk breakfast sausage, cooked and drained
- 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut into small cubes
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat and set aside.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- Add in the butter and cut it in, using a pastry cutter or you preferred method, until the mixture resembles small crumbs the size of a pea.
- Stir in the sausage and cheese.
- Add the buttermilk and using a fork gently stir the mixture until all of the dry ingredients are moistened.
- Use your hands and knead the mixture in the bowl until the dough comes together.
- Turn the dough out onto your prepared baking sheet and pat into an 8x10 inch rectangle.
- Cut the dough into 12 squares and spread them out about an inch apart.
- Brush the top of each biscuit with melted butter.
- Bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
- Remove the biscuits from the oven and cool them slightly before serving.
