Sausage Cheddar Biscuits

Sausage Cheddar Biscuits: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This recipe takes a flaky buttermilk biscuit and combines it with plenty of yummy sausage and cheese. It is a very tasty way to start any day!


Sausage Cheddar Biscuits

Ingredients:
  • 3 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1 pound bulk breakfast sausage, cooked and drained
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, cut into small cubes
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  3. Add in the butter and cut it in, using a pastry cutter or you preferred method, until the mixture resembles small crumbs the size of a pea.
  4. Stir in the sausage and cheese.
  5. Add the buttermilk and using a fork gently stir the mixture until all of the dry ingredients are moistened.
  6. Use your hands and knead the mixture in the bowl until the dough comes together.
  7. Turn the dough out onto your prepared baking sheet and pat into an 8x10 inch rectangle.
  8. Cut the dough into 12 squares and spread them out about an inch apart.
  9. Brush the top of each biscuit with melted butter.
  10. Bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown.
  11. Remove the biscuits from the oven and cool them slightly before serving.
