Crock Pot Nashville Hot Chicken

Crock Pot Nashville Hot Chicken: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This recipe has been adapted from a chicken restaurant in Nashville called Hattie B's Hot Chicken. I have never heard of that restaurant, but then again I don't live near Nashville.

Crock Pot Nashville Hot Chicken: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

From a quick search, I found that the sandwich is made with a piece of spicy chicken, where this recipe is shredded chicken. I love this shredded version, it is so easy and has a the kind of spiciness to it that makes my nose runs, but is flavorful, not just hot and spicy. The ranch dressing helps to cut the heat a little bit and the pickles add crunch and more flavor.

I am so glad that there are food bloggers out there sharing their take on restaurant favorites. Otherwise I never would have had the chance to enjoy this spicy and delicious sandwich.

Crock Pot Nashville Hot Chicken

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 2-4 tablespoons cayenne pepper (see notes)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup low sodium chicken broth
  • 8 hamburger buns
  • ranch dressing
  • dill pickle slices

Directions:

  1. Add the chicken to a crock pot.
  2. Whisk together the remaining ingredients until well mixed. Pour over the chicken.
  3. Cover the crock pot and cook on low for 4-6 hours.
  4. Remove the chicken and shred. Return the chicken to the crock pot and stir to coat in the sauce.
  5. Serve the chicken on hamburger buns topped with ranch dressing and dill pickles.
Enjoy!!!

Notes:
I used 3 rounded tablespoons in this chicken and it had a nice spicy flavor. Start with 1 or 2 tablespoons and taste the sauce before adding to the crock pot. Add more cayenne pepper to make spicier.

My sauce was a little runny after cooking, so I left the lid off for about 30 minutes, while still on low and it thickened up.
