I loved this drink! It was so delicious! The only downside is that it takes over 12 hours until the cold brewed coffee is ready. The good news is your house will smell like coffee and in the end you have a delicious drink. Actually you will end up with enough cold brewed coffee to make about 12 yummy drinks.
I have included two variations to the original cold brewed iced coffee. All three are delicious!
UPDATE: I have added a white chocolate version of this iced coffee. I also now use a special container designed for making cold brew coffee and it is so easy to use.
Cold Brewed Coffee
Ingredients:
- 1/2 pound ground coffee
- 4 1/2 cups cold filtered water
- In a large container pour in 1/4 cup water. Add in 1/4 pound ground coffee and gentle tap the container with a spoon to evenly distribute the coffee grounds.
- Pour in 2 cups water and gentle tap the container again.
- Add in remaining ground coffee and gently tap the container yet again.
- Pour in 2 cups water and again gently tap the container.
- Wait 5 minutes and add remaining 1/4 cup water and for the last time gently tap the container to evenly distribute the coffee grounds.
- Cover container and let sit at room temperature for 12 hours untouched.
- Place a mesh strainer over a bowl and pour coffee grounds and water mixture into the strainer and let drain.
- Dump the drained coffee grounds, place a coffee filter into the mesh strainer and place over a container. Pour cold brewed coffee into the coffee filter to remove any remaining coffee grounds and let drain.
- Cover cold brewed and refrigerate for up to 2 weeks.
Cold Brewed Iced Coffee
Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons cold brewed coffee
- 2 tablespoons cold water
- 2 tablespoons sweetened condensed milk
- 1 tall glass of ice cubes
- In a glass measuring cup combine the coffee, water and sweetened condensed milk.
- Dump the glass of ice into a blender and pour coffee mixture over top. Blend until well mix and pour into tall glass.
- Garnish with whipped cream for an extra special treat.
Variations (not included in nutritional information):
Caramel
Stir 2 tablespoons of caramel syrup into the coffee mixture and continue with remaining directions. Top whipped cream with a drizzle of caramel if desired.
Mocha
Stir 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup into coffee mixture and continue with remaining directions. Top whipped cream with a drizzle of chocolate syrup if desired.
White Chocolate
Stir in 1 tablespoon of white chocolate sauce into coffee mixture and continue with remaining directions. Top whipped cream if desired.
