Cherry Ice Cream

Cherry Ice Cream: Savory Sweet and Satisfying

This ice cream is the same as my Dark Cherry Ice Cream with one important difference. This one is made with tart frozen cherries instead of dark cherries. Both varieties of the ice cream are delicious, but I definitely like this one better.

I have always preferred the tart cherries, but have trouble finding them in stores. The only store that I have regularly seen them at is Meijer. Thankfully the Meijer in my town is opening soon, so hopefully I will never again have trouble finding tart cherries.

Cherry Ice Cream

Ingredients:

  • 16 ounces frozen tart cherries, thawed<
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups half and half
  • 1 1/2 cups whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons almond extract

Directions:

  1. Place a freezer safe container for storing the ice cream in the freezer.
  2. Place the thawed cherries and any juice from the bag in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium for about 5 minutes or until the cherries have softened.
  3. Remove from heat and add in sugar, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  4. Stir in the half and half, whipping cream and almond extract.
  5. Place mixture in a bowl and refrigerate until completely cold.
  6. Pour into ice cream machine and churn according to manufacturer's directions.
  7. Take storage container out of the freezer and transfer ice cream into it. Cover and freeze.
Enjoy!!!
